The government of Rajasthan, India has banned the use of gestation and farrowing crates in pig farming in the state. The order follows Peta’s appeal for the government to act against this practice, which they allege limits the animal’s “reasonable opportunity for movement.” The Indian Council of Agricultural Research’s National Research Centre on Pig also backed the decision, saying the cages violate the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act of 1960.
