Thailand is approaching a significant milestone in cage-free egg production. On March 9, 2026, Chaiyapornsaha Farm Co., Ltd. in Suphanburi Province committed to a 100% cage-free transition by 2027, covering one million hens — one of the largest single-producer pledges in Southeast Asia.

The commitment follows three years of engagement by CATALYST, an organisation that supports farm transitions through its Good Life Framework Standard, financial institution partnerships, and market access programme Happy Egg Connect. Chaiyapornsaha has already moved 50,000 hens to cage-free housing as of early April, with full implementation underway.

Combined with pledges from Koh-Taew Co., Ltd. (45,000 hens over three years) and Thaweephant Phuket’s expansion of 12,500 additional hens this year, Thailand has surpassed one million hens committed to cage-free systems in 2026.

The transition has also gained government backing. Thailand’s Department of Livestock Development has trained 98 farms across 15 provinces and published official cage-free manuals based on the Good Life Framework.

“Thailand’s industry has demonstrated that large-scale producer transitions to more sustainable and ethical systems require integrated strategies addressing technical capacity, financial feasibility, and market access,” said Pornchai Srisoontornthai, Vice President of CATALYST Company Limited.
