The average farm price of corn in Thailand was USD 264/ton between January-September 2021, up 5% year-on-year (yoy), the USDA said. In September, it was up 8%. Lower acreage and strong domestic demand drove up the price. Meanwhile, production is expected to decrease 4% to 5.3mt in marketing year (MY) 2021/22. Anticipated weaker returns compared to other crops have encouraged farmers to switch to other crops like cassava. Corn imports totaled 1.92mt in MY 2020/21, up 18% yoy. Around 98% came from Myanmar.
